Research Interests

I am involved, primarily, in research investigating erosion and sedimentation caused by military maneuvers on the Fort Hood Military Reservation. I maintain automated water sampling stations on several watersheds where heavy equipment causes severe vegetation and soil disturbance. Collected water quality data is used to evaluate the effectiveness of various Best Management Practices to control erosion and sedimentation. In addition, I participate in various long term projects looking at the effectiveness of contour filter strips and riparian buffer zones to reduce agricultural Non Point Source pollution. I am also interested in the use of grasses as ornamental species to be used in water and resource conserving landscapes of high aesthetic value.
