Simulation Model Development

With a long, distinguished list of contributors including scientists throughout the world, the Model Development Team at Temple, Texas, has been building and applying computer simulation models for over 40 years.  The hydrologic data collection program on the Brushey Creek watershed at Riesel, TX, (a Temple satellite station) began in 1937 and continues today.  Data collected from this and other watershed sites for the 70-year long record have been vital in developing and testing models at Temple.

The pioneers of the Model Development Team created single event models that featured surface water hydrology components and sediment yield in their elementary states. These fundamental models continue to serve as the foundation of the more complex, continuous models operating on spatial scales, ranging from individual fields to river basins. Four state-of-the-art models (ALMANAC, APEX, EPIC, and SWAT) are currently supported at Temple. Although these models are operational and being used worldwide, researchers continue developing and expanding their capabilities.
