Station 1 is located at the junction of Cowhouse Creek and FM116 near Pidcoke, Texas. The Cowhouse watershed drains almost 460 square miles above Fort Hood at this point and has the potential to deliver massive amounts of runoff to Lake Belton though the river channel which cuts Fort Hood in half. Stream depths over 35 feet have been recorded at this location, just clearing the bridge in the photo. The FAST monitor at Station 1 is frequently the lead instrument to report during storm runoff events, especially when precipitation is heavy in the upper portion of the watershed. The "All Stations" page snapshot below shows the results of such an event. No precipitation was recorded on the Fort Hood reservation as heavy rainfall was occurring 45 miles to the northwest. A 10 foot rise was detected, reported, and recorded by the FAST sytem. Note that other monitoring locations recorded no rise in stream levels.
